Dr. Loukas Zachilas was born in Athens on June 10, 1960. He studied Mathematics at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, earning his Bachelor’s degree in 1983. In 1988, he received his Ph.D. from the Department of Physics at the University of Athens, completing his doctoral dissertation titled “Numerical and Theoretical Study of Three-Dimensional Stellar Systems”.
His work has been published in international scientific journals, including: Astronomy & Astrophysics, Astronomy & Astrophysics Supplement Series, Chemical Physics, Molecular Physics, International Journal of Bifurcation & Chaos, Applied Mathematics, Journal of Biological Physics, International Journal of Nonlinear Science and Numerical Simulations, and Solar Physics. His research interests focus on the study of dynamical systems in two- and three-dimensional spaces and the potential emergence of chaos. Such models arise in Galactic Dynamics, Applied Economic Analysis, time-series problems, and arms race dynamics. Since 1982, he has participated in numerous conferences, presenting his research work.
From 1990 to the present, he has taught at various institutions, including the University of Crete, the TEI of Heraklion (Crete), the TEI of Larissa, ASPETE in Volos, and, of course, the University of Thessaly.
In March 2019, he was promoted to the rank of Associate Professor, and since June 2025, he has served as a Full Professor of Numerical and Analytical Study of Non-linear Dynamical Models and Stability of Economic Systems in the Department of Economics at the University of Thessaly.
He is a member of the International Astronomical Union (IAU) and President of the Astronomical and Space Society, based in Volos.
