The Departments of Economics and Accounting & Finance of the School of Economics and Business of the University of Thessaly, operate from the acad. year 2020-21, Interdepartmental Master’s Program entitled “Accounting and Auditing” in accordance with the provisions of Law 4485/2017.

The two Departments jointly undertake the coordination of the educational process and the development and supervision of the academic content of the “Joint DPMS”.

The duration of the cooperation will be 5 years. The Joint DPMS will operate until the academic year 2024-2025 subject to the provisions of par. 8 of article 32.

The Interdepartmental Master’s Program of the Departments of Economic Sciences and Accounting & Finance of the University of Thessaly in “Accounting and Auditing” has as its object the specialization of graduates of the Departments of Economics, and other related specialties.

The Master’s Degree (MDS) leads, in accordance with the procedures defined each time by law, to the granting of professional rights, beyond those provided for by the basic degree.

Specifically, the objectives of the program are:

  1. To promote the development of the applications and research of the Science of Accounting in practice by providing knowledge in the subjects “Accounting and Auditing” at a theoretical and practical level to deal with the increased professional demands in the private and public sector.
  2. To deepen the basic principles and methods of Auditing in the modern business environment as well as the concepts of business risk management as well as the internal control of a company.
  3. To prepare for graduate studies at doctoral level.

The purpose of the program is to equip its graduates with the necessary knowledge, required in various fields and branches of accounting and auditing so that they can meet the increasing demands of the labor market and/or the position in which they are already employed.

The Msc addresses both recent graduates and those already working in the private and wider public sector and covers the needs not only of those who wish to join the labor market with increased and enhanced qualifications, specialized knowledge and skills, but also of those who are already employed and wish to strengthen, update and specialize their knowledge with the aim of improving their professional performance and/or enhancing the prospects of professional development in the field they are already employed in or to seek better employment opportunities in other sectors, industries or businesses.

The Msc “Accounting and Auditing” is structured in three academic semesters, which include 12 courses. The minimum duration to complete the program is 18 months. The total number of credits (ECTS) required to obtain the Master’s Degree is 90 (ninety) ECTS, i.e. 30 (thirty) per semester. Course attendance is mandatory.

From the 2020-21 academic year, students will be able to participate remotely in part of the lectures that will be implemented through a distance education platform.

The course of the three semesters is distributed in the classrooms and laboratories of the two Departments: Volos – Department of Economic Sciences – Matsangou building and Larissa – Department of Accounting and Finance.

– Partial attendance of the Program is envisaged for six (6) semesters without additional financial burden.

In addition to providing teaching work, the DPMS can cooperate with corresponding postgraduate programs of domestic and foreign Institutions as well as bodies such as AADE (Independent Public Revenue Authority), the Ministry of Finance, Financial Institutions and large Audit Firms.

Also, since 2018, it has been collaborating with ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants). Graduates of the DPMS who wish to participate in the professional exams for obtaining the international title of Chartered Accountant are exempted from examination of teaching units (courses

The tuition fees for attending the DPMS are €4200 (Four thousand two hundred euros).

Excellence Scholarships (for academic year 2023-24) – Full and partial tuition waiver

“In the context of recognizing and rewarding Excellence based on the Degree degree, the following is provided for:

One (1) Excellence Scholarship (full tuition waiver) for the prospective graduate student with the highest degree in an undergraduate department of study.

Scholarships (50% tuition discount) for 4 (four) prospective postgraduate students with an undergraduate degree grade above 8 (eight). An evaluation order will be observed.

For the Academic year 2023-24 upon accepting the inclusion of new students in the Program the following possibilities are provided:

  • 25% discount for one-time payment of tuition fees upon acceptance of the inclusion of new students in the Program (i.e. the final payment amount is €3150)
  • 15% discount and an advance payment of €400 upon accepting the inclusion of new students in the Program, when the fees are paid in three installments, at the beginning of each semester of courses (i.e. the final payment amount is €3360)
  • Advance payment of €400 upon acceptance of the inclusion of new students in the Program and repayment in 18 interest-free installments (i.e. the final payment amount is €4200)
  • Possibility of using a credit card

Fees are non-refundable after the start of classes each academic year.

The delay in payment of the amount of the tuition installment beyond 30 days creates an obstacle to the students’ participation in the exams.

The duration, as well as the minimum study time, of the Msc is three (3) semesters which include 12 courses. The courses are divided into 4 (four in each semester). The total number of credits (ECTS) required to obtain the Master’s Degree (MSD) is 90 (ninety) ECTS and 30 (thirty) are distributed per semester.

The Program is periodically revised with continuous improvements and updates, without losing its characteristic structure and orientation, based on information and data of a national scale, but also by processing the information resulting from the analysis of the study programs of domestic and foreign Universities.

With the proposal of the EDE and the approval of the Senate of the University of Thessaly, both the redistribution of the courses in the additional semesters of the part-time study program, as well as the modification of the course program can be done.

The EDE has the possibility to amend the provisions of these operating regulations. The amendments are approved by the Senate of the University of Thessaly.

Announcement of results

The results are announced to the candidates within 7 working days of the completion of the interviews. They are posted on the boards of the Departments in a format that ensures the confidentiality of personal data and are announced in the e-mail of the successful candidates. The successful candidates are invited to respond in writing (electronically) within a period of 15 working days regarding the acceptance or not of their inclusion in the Program.

In case of non-timely response of a selected candidate within the prescribed period, it is equivalent to the resignation of his candidacy. If there are resignations, the Secretariat informs the next in line of evaluation from the relevant list.
